The Issue

Living in Plymouth I have personally witnessed the struggles faced by those of us who are disabled, the elderly, and families residing in multi-family homes. The new ordinance which prohibits parking on lawns will be a heavy burden on countless residents across our city. Not only does it pose significant challenges to our day-to-day activities, but it also threatens our autonomy, well-being, and community spirit as some enjoy having RV,s boats, trailers and other sporting related vehicles. That we store on our land.

For many individuals with mobility challenges, particularly those who are handicapped or elderly, convenient parking is crucial for maintaining independence and quality of life. Parking on a lawn, in close proximity to their homes, can sometimes be the only viable option. For those living in multi-family dwellings, the limitation on parking space compounds the already existing challenges of urban living, as street parking may not meet the demand or be suitably located for their needs.

Moreover, our city boasts numerous neighborhoods where curbside parking is not adequately available, making lawn parking a necessity rather than a choice for many residents.

We urge the city council of Plymouth to reconsider and reject this ordinance in its present form. Instead, we propose a collaborative discussion among community members, local government, and urban planners to seek a balanced solution that respects both the neighborhood  and the practical needs of its residents. Potential alternatives could include using communication by letter concerning any parking in yard upon water meters or damage to city property in general could result in fines or retribution if not corrected in a timely manner.

Let us prioritize the needs and welfare of all city inhabitants. We must look for inclusive and equitable solutions that uphold the dignity and independence of our community's most vulnerable members.

Sign this petition to urge the Plymouth city council to reject the restrictive ordinance on lawn parking and to work together for a more inclusive community plan. Together, we can make a difference.
