Reject the CAN Bill in Parliament: Preserve Freedom and Scale Back Net Zero Dictates

The Issue

Drawing upon a deeply personal conviction, I urge you to vote against the CAN (Climate and nature bill ) Bill which presents itself before our Parliament. My personal belief that we must halt the authoritarian march towards net zero resonates with many, echoing throughout the country and rural areas alike.

The bill, in its current form, places an undue burden on our citizens, ignoring the complex and varied energy needs of our nation. We need to balance our environmental concern with societal needs, rather than being steered by an imposed plan to reach net zero.

Our country has diverse energy requirements that differ from urban to rural areas; one-size-fits-all solutions simply won't work. In 2019, rural families used 37% more energy than those in urban areas (Energy Use Survey, Office for National Statistics, 2021). Our energy policies must reflect those realities and strive for flexibility.

Our countryside is a testament to the careful balance we have achieved between development and nature. We should not jeopardise this with a singular focus on achieving net zero, but rather champion a dialogue that considers all perspectives to shape a balanced and informed energy policy.

Let's stand together and encourage our parliament to vote down the CAN bill, to protect our landscape, respect our diverse energy needs and uphold the democratic right to influence the policies that govern us. Let's advocate for a more comprehensive, thoughtful conversation about our energy future – a conversation that respects our varying needs and situations.

Please sign this petition calling for the rejection of the CAN bill, insist on respecting the unique character of our country and its diverse energy requirements.
