Dear Donors, volunteers, supporters and friends,
Early this year we all experienced the shocking news of the irresponsible decision by the Ontario Government fueled by some diaspora linked politicians in making the Bill 104 as law Tamil Genocide Education Week Act (TGEWA), 2021.
It is now a law that “Sinhalese-Buddhists committed Tamil Genocide in Sri Lanka”. It is not an option to walk to teacher and ask her to stop teaching this lie to their students because the teacher can refer to this law as a point of reference.
We can only imagine the applications that will derive from this law of lies, passed without balanced community consultation or expert opinion.
To help with this complex situation, a team of expert constitutional lawyers were hired in early June. Cambridge LLP, successfully filed a strong case in end of August. The legal costs when we started the case was estimated to be 150,000. However, given the complexity and the Attorney General’s actions have increased estimation to be $250,000.
From June till December, communities from all over Canada was able to raise a total of $133,000. Special recognition to the volunteers in Toronto, Ottawa and Winnipeg for the monthly efforts to raise funds. Special mention to Toronto community for raising the largest of the sums as well as conducting the largest community effort so far. Brampton Association along with Mr. Asoka Pinnaduwage along with Ananda/Nalanda Old Boys raised considerable amounts of funds.
Our thanks and appreciation needs to be given to all the donors who have contributed without hesitation, all the volunteers who tirelessly contributed their time, money and resources along with the many supporters who have helped the legal avenues to continue to fight to repeal the TGEWA.
We seek your support to continue to move forward in 2022 to seek justice to repeal TGEWA!
Wishing you and your families a Happy and a prosperous New Year!
