Reject digital IDs, protect our liberty

Reject digital IDs, protect our liberty
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call for the wholehearted and universal rejection of digital identification systems, which represent one of the late-stage forms of authoritarian governance.
Governments are presenting digital IDs as a solution to problems they themselves have helped create. For example, in the United Kingdom, authorities are rolling out digital IDs under the pretext of combating “illegal workers.” Yet this issue largely stems from government mismanagement, weak policies, and mass migration flows that officials have failed to address responsibly. Rather than accepting accountability, they are turning to technological surveillance, using digital IDs as a tool of control.
Digital IDs are not neutral. They create the infrastructure for:
- Mass surveillance of ordinary citizens.
- Centralized control over who can work, travel, or access services.
- Erosion of privacy and freedom, with data stored in vulnerable systems subject to abuse and hacking.
- The groundwork for social credit–style systems, where personal liberties can be granted or revoked at the push of a button.
- This is not about modernization or efficiency. This is about power, control, and the shrinking space for human freedom.
We reject digital IDs in all their forms, whether framed as convenient, secure, or “necessary.” We demand governments pursue policies that protect citizens’ liberty without forcing them into constant digital monitoring.
We call on governments worldwide to:
- Halt the rollout of digital ID systems.
- Protect the rights of individuals to privacy, anonymity, and freedom of movement.
- We ask citizens everywhere to stand together in this universal rejection. Digital IDs are not the future of freedom; they are the blueprint of authoritarianism.
Sign this petition to defend privacy, liberty, and human dignity. Together, we can prevent the normalization of digital IDs before they become entrenched in our societies.
