Hi Friends!

REMINDER: CITY COUNCIL MEETING - OCTOBER 15th at 9AM

We are headed back down to City Hall to show up and speak. If you have a personal story to tell about how the alley to curb transition will affect you and/or cost you, now is the time to tell the City Council directly! And they are listening! If you are committed to the fight to keep your alley service, we need you there! For those who are just attending and not speaking, we ask that you stand when our speakers are at the podium to show solidarity

Sign up to speak can begin at 8:15am on Thursday, October 9th.

Here's the link to sign up to speak:

It was very easy! Parking (free) is below City Hall and the Council Chambers are on the 6th floor. We arrived a little before 9am and were finished by 10am. It was impactful and made a difference!!

Update regarding the delay in implementation:

Following is the link to the article on the front page of the DMN Metro section this morning. This will also be posted to www.keepalleytrash.com. Please pay close attention to what the City Manager is saying, "The Sanitation department will conduct a survey in October and November to gauge residents interest in continuing alley service." We are unsure about what this "survey" will ask, but are very sure that people have already voiced their opinion via the petition, yard signs and letters to City Hall. Our feeling is that there will be questions regarding how much people are willing to pay for this service. We have asked for full transparency on the economics of this pricing, but haven't received a response from the City Staff. Dallas Sanitation is an "Enterprise Service" which means that revenues from our fees paid to the city should cover the cost of garbage collection without it being a profit center. In prior presentations to the City Council, the Sanitation Staff has proposed significant, unsupported increases in monthly service costs for alley customers. We have asked, and have not received, justification for those proposed cost increases. We are concerned that the survey might suggest that substantial cost increases to residents will be necessary to continue alley service when in fact, numerous other municipalities outsource this service for less than what we are currently paying. Should you receive a survey from the city, please recognize that any cost increases that might be proposed by Sanitation would have to be approved by a majority of the City Council prior to implementation.
