A huge thank you to everyone in our community who stood with us to oppose the Huon Hill pokies application. 

On 27 October 2025, the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) determined to refuse an application by Huon Hill Club Limited for approval of the premises to be known as Club Wodonga, located at 48 Reid Street, Wodonga, as suitable for gaming with seventy electronic gaming machines.

The refusal was made under section 3.3.8(1) of the Gambling Regulation Act 2003, with the Commission finding it was not satisfied that the net socio-economic impact on the local community would not be detrimental.

Today’s decision is a real win for Wodonga. Together, we have shown that the community can push back against gambling expansion and protect those most at risk. 

Every voice, every submission and every bit of advocacy mattered. This outcome will help to limit access to pokies and prevent the avoidable harm they cause to the most vulnerable.

Gateway Health will continue to work alongside our partners to support a healthier, fairer and more connected community, one where gambling harm is reduced, not expanded.
