I am a student from Baker, where our schools have suffered greatly since gaining independence from the East Baton Rouge Parish School System (EBRPSS). Since then, our successful grades rate has plummeted – evidence of a failing educational system that desperately calls for reform. The poor financial backing further exacerbates the issue, directly impacting our learning on a day-to-day basis. Of equal concern is the current state of security. Illegal substances, such as marijuana and vapes, effortlessly find their way into our schools, endangering the students. These challenges urgently need a solution.

One viable way to address these problems will be by reintegrating the Baker Schools into the EBRPSS. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, larger school districts usually have more resources than their smaller counterparts and can offer more comprehensive courses and advanced programs (NCES). The EBRPSS, with access to a wider base of funding and resources, would have the capacity to invest more in improving the academic performance and security of our schools.

Therefore, this petition seeks to bring the Baker Schools back under the umbrella of the EBRPSS. Only with appropriate funding, strong security measures, and effective systems of education, can we hope to see a bright, successful future for the students of Baker.
