On a recent trip to Centre in the Square, Kitchener,  I had to use the bathroom. I was seated on the mezzanine level and went to use one of the 2 women’s bathrooms that had been located on this level for years. I was surprised to see there was now only a men’s bathroom and a gender neutral bathroom option. I thought the second women’s bathroom must still be there on the other side of the theatre so decided to try that one. I was shocked to see the options were the same-men only or gender neutral. I asked security where the closest women’s washroom was and was told I would have to go down to the main level. What about the rights of women with mobility issues and the elderly and those that are just not comfortable using gender neutral bathrooms? The ratio of biological women frequenting this venue far outweighs the percentage of those identifying as gender neutral or the opposite gender so why must they be the ones inconvenienced? It would have made far more sense to eliminate one of the men’s bathrooms, added just 1 gender neutral bathroom and left the 2 women’s bathrooms intact as women far exceed the time bathroom use and time spent in bathrooms. I am urging The Centre in the Square to consider the feelings, needs and rights of their female customers and reinstate women only bathrooms on every level of their Theatre.
