The Issue

To: Carrollton High School Administration and the Carrollton City Schools Board of Education

We, the undersigned members of the Carrollton High School community and supporters of student achievement, respectfully request that the CHS Dance Team be allowed to return to the track during football games, a space traditionally reserved for spirit teams to energize the crowd, support athletes, and showcase school pride.

The recent decision to remove the dance team from the track sidelines is not only disheartening, but also unfair, especially given that other spirit groups continue to occupy this space. This policy change sends the wrong message about equity, representation, and the importance of supporting all student programs.

Dance and pom teams across the nation perform on the track as part of the game-day experience. For many of our CHS dancers, these performances are a key part of their development as athletes and artists, and are critical for preparing for collegiate opportunities that require real-time, high-pressure experience.

CHS dancers dedicate themselves year-round, training, competing at GHSA events, and proudly representing our school with integrity and energy. Feedback from fans, parents, and community members has consistently affirmed the positive spirit and school morale our dancers bring to football games.

We believe:
    •    All spirit teams should be treated equally.
    •    Student goals, especially those tied to college preparation, deserve school support.
    •    Tradition and community engagement matter.

Removing the dance team from the track strips students of an important opportunity to grow, lead, and contribute visibly to our Trojan family. Let’s not silence their efforts. Let’s stand with them.

We urge the Carrollton High School administration to reconsider this decision and reinstate the CHS Dance Team’s right to perform on the track during football games.
