Reinstate The Woodlands Park Garbage Bins To Keep The Park Safe And Clean

Reinstate The Woodlands Park Garbage Bins To Keep The Park Safe And Clean
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents and visitors of Kingston, Ontario are petitioning to restore garbage bins in Woodlands Park, a valuable community space that previously benefited from their presence.
The removal of these bins has led to increased littering, which detracts from the park's usability and enjoyment for all. By reinstating garbage bins, we can ensure a cleaner, more inviting environment for our community and support our collective commitment to maintaining a beautiful and functional public space. We urge Kingston City Council to act promptly in addressing this issue and reinstating the necessary waste management facilities.
A missing garbage bin poses several dangers to the community. Without proper waste disposal options, litter often accumulates, leading to unsightly and unsanitary conditions. This can attract pests such as rodents and insects, which pose health risks. Additionally, the presence of trash in public spaces can contribute to environmental pollution and negatively impact local wildlife. By reinstating garbage bins, we can mitigate these hazards and promote a healthier, cleaner environment for everyone.
Despite numerous requests to the city (and city council) to place garbage bins in Woodlands Park, we have been consistently told that all available bins are already allocated elsewhere. This response is unreasonable given the evident need for waste management in our park. The absence of bins has led to increased littering and deteriorating park conditions (including shards of metal cans from city mowers spread in the grass), which could be mitigated by reallocating resources or expanding bin availability. We urge the city to reconsider and address this pressing issue to better serve our community's needs.
