EMAIL TO BOVC Chairman Harry Frizzell
.........................................................................
Hi Harry, I'm sure you are well aware of the petition I have had in place regarding having the Vintage and Classic Vehicle Cavalcade reinstated in the Spring Fair.
I wanted to clear up a point that was raised recently regarding this, I am not trying nor have I ever intended to attempt to take over the running of the Display nor Cavalcade at the Fair. I have had numerous people complaining about the Vintage Cavalcade not being included in the main parade and so I did some investigating into why this occurred. That is where my petition initiated from. I don't care who organises nor runs the Cavalcade nor Display. I was just peeved that it was removed completely without any input or discussion with the Vintage & Classic Vehicle Community other than yourselves.
I realise you have your own ambitions and ideals, but BOVC do not have the right to speak for the whole V&C Community in N Ireland who have attended and fundraised this event from its inception as far back as Tommy Shaws days in his Model T.
This event was supported far and wide in N Ireland Community and the public flocked here every year to witness it.
What gives BOVC the right to end all of this to suit their own agenda? I have even spoken to members of your own club who don't agree with the decision, stating that they can drive around Aghadowey anytime they want, but don't want to do it on the day of the Spring Fair.
I have no issue with yourself nor the club, but when it interferes with the countrywide V&C Vehicle Community then yes I do.
I understand exactly why you want to have your Display on Fair Day as you know the footfall is there to raise funds for your charity, but when it comes down to it being at the expense of the Vintage & Classic Vehicle Community that you propose to represent, that is where I have the problem.
I just want to clear the issue up that this is not an issue about me wanting to take over from BOVC, but for BOVC to support those they are supposed to be set up for....
As I stated to you before recently, BOVC do not even have many what I would consider 'proper Vintage nor Classic' vehicles amongst their membership any longer, which, whilst completely your own members choice, it would lead me to suggest you consider handing the local mantle over to a club with the intentions of having only those specific vehicles in their membership.
Either way, I don't intend to give up the effort to have the Vintage & Classic Vehicles restored even by token to the Cavalcade either with or without your support.
