As a student at Meyer Middle School, I personally benefited immensely from the Scratch programming platform until it was unfortunately blocked. This educational tool does much more than entertain: it equips students with valuable coding skills, enhances their creative ingenuity, and paves the way for potential career paths in technology. Research from Harvard Graduate School of Education reveals that participating students improved their math and problem-solving skills while also growing in their ability to work collaboratively (Harvard Graduate School of Education, Project Zero). Moreover, in a rapidly digitalizing world, knowing how to code is becoming almost as indispensable as the three Rs of education. By depriving us, Meyer Middle School students, the access to Scratch, our learning and skill-building opportunities are being undermined. Therefore, we call upon the administration of Meyer Middle School to unblock Scratch in our school and reintegrate it into our educational resources.
