Reinstate the Municipality of West Grey summer camp for 2026
The Issue
The treasured summer camp program offered by the Municipality of West Grey has been a beacon of joy, learning, and camaraderie for many children within our community. Unfortunately, its discontinuation deprives countless children of experiences that foster growth, independence, and lifelong friendships. It also takes away full time summer employment opportunities for our teenage workforce.
For years pre and post COVID, this program has provided invaluable opportunities for children aged 5-12 to engage in structured and purposeful activities during the summer months. It has served as a sanctuary where children can explore the arts, sports, sciences, and adventurous outdoor activities—all under the guidance of qualified and enthusiastic staff. It promotes social skills, physical health, and mental well-being, while also supporting parents by offering affordable childcare when most needed.
The absence of such programs is leading to a lack of structured activities for kids, especially for families who cannot afford alternative options. Many local parents have expressed concerns about balancing work and childcare during the summer, which further underscores the need for this program. Reinstating the summer camp will help alleviate these pressures and ensure children have a safe, educational, and enjoyable place to spend their summer days.
The demand for the program is evident, as last year 244 enrollments were recorded among 51 families. Families who rely on this program week in and week out to ensure they have the adequate funding to cover their expenses and give back to the Municipality of West Grey. We have the facilities and the community support to sustain this initiative, but we need the municipality’s commitment to bring it back.
We urge the Municipality of West Grey to recognize the immense benefits of this program for the community's youth and to allocate necessary resources for its revival in 2026. Ensuring the well-being and development of our children should be a top priority. By signing this petition, you are advocating for the continuation of a beloved community tradition that invests in the future of our young residents.
Sincerely,
Your West Grey Constituents
