The Issue

TLDR: FIFA IS TAKING AWAY EQUATORIAL GUINEA’S ONCE IN A LIFETIME CHANCE TO PLAY IN THE WOLRD CUP BECAUSE OF SOME WRONGLY FILED PAPERWORK 12 YEARS AGO.

On the 15th of November 2023 the National Football Team of Equatorial Guinea defeated Namibia 1-0 thanks to a goal from their star striker and all-time top goal-scorer, Emilio Nsue. 5 days later on the 20th of November 2023 they defeated Liberia 1-0 away from home, again thanks to a goal from Nsue.

In May of 2024 FIFA declared that Nsue was ineligible to play for Equatorial Guinea despite the fact that he had been playing for the side for 13 years by that point. Regardless FIFA claimed that Equatorial Guinea had known that Nsue was ineligible due to him playing competitive games for the Spanish under-21 side and Equatorial Guinea going to the Spanish Football Association and not FIFA for Nsue’s switch to playing for Equatorial Guinea in 2011. Following this in 2013 Equatorial Guinea’s Football Federation had filed paperwork to get Nsue properly registered. However it was not revealed until FIFA’s ruling in 2024 that the paperwork had been filed wrong thus technically making Nsue ineligible much to the surprise of everyone including Nsue.

FIFA’s ruling included a six month playing ban for Nsue (despite as previously stated he wasn’t aware that he was breaking any rules) as well as both of the previously mentioned games against Namibia and Liberia were both overturned and awarded as 3-0 losses for Equatorial Guinea. This effectively ruins Equatorial Guinea’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as even if Equatorial Guinea were to win all of there remaining matches it’s still doubtful that it would be enough points to qualify. However with these wins it would place Equatorial Guinea in second place behind only Tunisia (whom they only lost to 1-0 thanks to a penalty and that was without their star man) and it would give Equatorial Guinea a pretty good chance at qualifying for the World Cup for the first time in their history.

After all of this in March 2025, after Nsue had served his six month ban, the Equatoguinean Football Federation attempted to properly register Emilio Nsue as an Equatoguinean international and FIFA accepted with zero pushback. What FIFA are in essence admitting by allowing this to happen is that these very harsh punishments were handed out simply due to bad paperwork, because if the Equatoguinean Football Federation and/or Nsue were attempting to deceive FIFA they would obviously never let Nsue play for Equatorial Guinea ever again.

The signatories of this petition believe that Equatorial Guinea should not be deprived of what is a genuine once in a lifetime opportunity to see their team competed in a World Cup due to some poorly filed paperwork more than a decade before qualification for said World Cup even began. The signatories of this petition are asking FIFA and CAF to overturn FIFA’s previous decision, and ask them to reinstate Equatorial Guinea’s victories over Namibia and Liberia as 1-0 wins for Equatorial Guinea. All in the interest of fairness towards the Equatoguinean National Team and Emilio Nsue who have at no point done anything wrong with malicious intent.

Thank you to all that have read and signed this petition for your time and consideration.
