Reinstate the Childcare Subsidy

Reinstate the Childcare Subsidy
The Issue
My name is Christian Legg. I have never created a petition before, but as I am in education telling my students to be the change they want to see in the world, I am choosing to do the same.
Like many around Alberta, I am so unbelievably frustrated, disappointed, and angered with the Government of Alberta's recent decision to end its childcare subsidy for families with infants to kindergarten-aged children.
Many Albertans across varying industries and professions are struggling to make ends meet. It has never been more expensive to EXIST in this province as an everyday person, and this government has done nothing to help working families. Instead, what they have opted to do is make vehicle insurance more expensive, make utilities more expensive, give themselves raises, and pander to the 1% south of our border rather than help Albertans. The final straw for me was seeing this subsidy be removed, leaving my family to pay an additional $300 per month.
There are roughly 70,000 children (a similar number to people who live in Fort McMurray) that would be impacted from the removal of this subsidy, which means this is almost exclusively taking aim at young, working class families. Raising a child is already expensive and the subsidy was something that heavily offset that cost. Families with fixed incomes now have to magically come up with the extra cost, limiting valuable time spent with their family from likely having to work more, reducing qualities of life, and straining people's mental health.
Albertans across the province should be fed up with having to pay more for everything, while seeing the Government continue to gut public services one after another. With your support, the goal for this petition is to convey the following message to the government: Consider being held accountable for a change, and take the first inch in the right direction in reversing this legislation to keep more money in the hands of Alberta's backbone - working-class families.
