Reinstate the Amtrak Fort Pitt Train Service

Reinstate the Amtrak Fort Pitt Train Service
The Issue
I am an advocate for sustainable transportation solutions, and it is my firm belief that Amtrak should reinstate the Fort Pitt train service. This service was short-lived but served as a critical link between Altoona and Pittsburgh. Although I am not a resident of Western Pennsylvania, I find it unacceptable that Altoona is only served by one Amtrak train.
The Fort Pitt train provided an essential connection for the people of Pennsylvania, enhancing mobility and accessibility within the state. It also contributed to reducing carbon emissions by offering a more sustainable alternative to driving.
According to data from the U.S Department of Transportation, trains are on average 30-40% more fuel-efficient than cars or airplanes. By reinstating this service, we could significantly reduce our carbon footprint while improving connectivity in our state.
Furthermore, according to PennDOT's 2019 report on passenger rail funding needs, there is a growing demand for intercity passenger rail services in Pennsylvania. Reinstating the Fort Pitt line would be a step towards meeting this demand and providing better public transportation options for residents.
In light of these facts and given its potential benefits both environmentally and socially, we urge Amtrak to reconsider their decision and bring back the vital Fort Pitt train service. Please sign this petition if you agree with us that reinstating this line would be beneficial for both our community and our planet.
