We remember Victor the Bear. A local and treasured bear in our community who was tragically murdered due to human error. His loss is deeply felt in our community and served as a stark reminder - we need to do better.

As Mammoth Lakes residents, we believe that in order to keep our city special and protect its wildlife, we must co-exist in harmony with the creatures that make our home their home as well.

We were able to do that when Steve Searles, an experienced bear trainer, was employed by the city. During his tenure, no bears were unnecessarily euthanized. Steve's expertise allowed him to train bears effectively, preventing them from becoming a threat to locals and tourists alike. His work kept Mammoth Lakes and our bears safer.

This petition is a call to our elected council members to reinstate Steve Searles as the official wildlife expert and bear trainer of Mammoth Lakes. Our city thrived with wildlife and remained safe for everyone under his watchful and expert guidance. It's not just about the safety of our community but also about respecting and preserving the wildlife that contributes to making Mammoth Lakes special.

Bring back Steve Searles and save our bears, they deserve a chance to live in their natural habitat without fear of unnecessary euthanization.
