When I met with PPS Chief of Staff Jonathan Garcia earlier this month and he promised the PPS 'Safety Task Force' would be holding public comment meetings on April 21st and 24th concerning school security and SROs, and that these meetings would be widely advertised. Unfortunately, our requests for transparency have been ignored and the PPS Safety Task Force public meetings have not taken place. They have only held closed door meetings with select students and staff, and are due to report their findings to the school board on May 4th. We can expect a final school board vote on May 9th.
We, as students, staff, parents and neighbors of PPS schools, must continue to demand action and communication from PPS and city leaders, along with a commitment to safety by reinstating SROs and police safety patrols to PPS.
Please continue to share our petition and email PPS and city leaders requesting the reinstatement of SROs before the PPS Safety Task Force presents its findings in May. Working together, we've changed the conversation about PPS student and staff safety. Thank you for your support!
