Reinstate "Ruth" for Shrewsbury train station announcements

Reinstate "Ruth" for Shrewsbury train station announcements
The Issue
Every time I went to Shrewsbury train station, I was welcomed by the familiar, warm voice of "Ruth" announcing the train times. Growing up, Ruth became more than just a voice; she became a fixture of the station, a comforting presence that many of us came to associate with our daily commutes and travels. For decades, her announcements were not only informative but also part of the character and charm of Shrewsbury station.
Recently, Transport for Wales replaced this beloved announcement system with a new one called "Elin" which matches the announcements on their new fleet of trains, but this has effectively erased a piece of our shared history and the station's unique identity. Many travelers, including myself, find the new system impersonal and lacking the warmth that Ruth brought into our journeys. The importance of Ruth's voice extends beyond nostalgia; it represents continuity, tradition, and community spirit.
Shrewsbury train station holds fond memories for countless passengers, and Ruth's announcements were an integral part of those experiences. The change affects not just the functionality of the station but also its emotional landscape and the sense of belonging and comfort it has long provided.
I and those signing this petition call upon Transport for Wales to listen to the voices of those who cherish Ruth's announcements and acknowledge their significant role in the history and identity of Shrewsbury train station. Let's bring back the familiar voice that tells us more than just when our train will arrive but also tells a story of our town's heritage.
Please sign this petition to urge Transport for Wales to reinstate "Ruth" as the official announcer at Shrewsbury train station and preserve the character and charm that make it unique. Together, we can ensure that the heart of our station beats with the same warmth and familiarity it always has. Signing the petition could make all the difference in bringing back a piece of our shared identity. Please join us in this cause.
