Community has the word UNITY in it.

After all of the tragic events I held a community/Unity walk in the affected neighborhoods .
The outpouring of support was astonishing. Families, children, and individuals from all over came to the event and walked the neighborhood and surrounding areas to promote safety and unity. The goal was to facilitate more contact with adults and children in the area to strengthen the community and network the eyes and ears of everyone. When everyone is working toward safety then negative impact elements, IE Bad Guys, have a harder time committing crimes in the area.
Guess what? The police dept was not involved. They were invited. They were silent on the issue:. They waited SEVEN days after the murder then went into the neighborhood for 15 minutes for a photo op, took an handful of pictures for their social medial page and then left.
This may make their Facebook page look nice but it generates even more distrust from the families and children. It is insincere and lacks consistency. That lack of trust that’s built on top of that insincerity also gives way to fear.
Community policing is not a thing you can do halfway while balancing your revenue generating. You need to pick one or the other. Either focus on life, safety, and security, or focus on generating revenue for upper tier raises.
