The campaign doubled in a day!
Please keep sharing and ask your friends and family to sign.
I wanted to use this milestone to welcome the members of the team.
Kurt Friday (myself)
I'm an engineer working mostly in medical device manufacturing with a background in Physics. I live in lovely Balmain and have an amazing 12yo son.
At the time that I created the petition I was in mandatory isolation having been diagnosed with Covid-19. I am fortunate to not be immunocompromised or be in the vulnerable category, but I was shocked to learn that Mandatory Isolation for Covid-19 infection was going to be removed. Banding together with concerned and affected friends we created this campaign..
Robyn Dunphy
Robyn is an active member of the online community most affected by Covid-19. Contracting Covid-19 is extremely risky for her as she is immunosuppressed due to medication she needs to take for an underlying inflammatory condition. Her 41yo son in law also developed Leukaemia post Covid-19 infection. Robyn is very concerned about her safety and the safety of vulnerable Australians and the implications of removing mandatory isolation. Robyn's Twitter handle is @KoperaFallsKid
Gemma Collett
Gemma is a distinguished embryologist and Research Officer coordinating the Australasian participation in a multi-national clinical trial investigating the impact of physical activity on cancer for the Centre for Medical Psychology & Evidence-based Decision-making (CeMPED) at the University of Sydney.
Gemma is a close friend of mine and I have been particularly touched and saddened that the impact of Covid-19 has had on her life and that of her mum, Sue Collett.
Sue Collett
Sue is recently retired having worked the past 27 years at Relationships Australia. She loves gardening, her family and has a beautiful cat Toby. I've had the pleasure of meeting Sue a few times but on all occasions it has to be very controlled and safe as Sue is a cancer survivor and immunocompromised, Covid-19 infection world be very risky for her.
I wanted to attach here a letter that Sue wrote that expresses the implications and seriousness of removing Mandatory Covid-19 Isolation
I am writing to the government to inform you of my sadness and disappointment with your decision to remove isolation for people infected with Covid.
The government has not considered the many thousands of people in NSW and across Australia who are immunocompromised and what this will mean for their wellbeing and safety moving forward.
For me personally, I am a cancer survivor in remission and immunocompromised. This decision has impacted the quality of my life even more. I have already become fearful and scared that people with Covid will be in the community, and with the removal of masks there will be no regards for others. This will leave me housebound, and as I live alone, what a depressing future to look forward to especially after battling a rare cancer and a bone marrow transplant in the hope of a few more years of enjoyment.
The NSW Premier and government should be ashamed of their decision, as there is no consideration or thought given to people like myself.
Regards
S Collett
