Reinstate Kelsey Stowers as the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at WVWC
The Issue
Coach Kelsey Stowers has been at West Virginia Wesleyan College (WVWC) since 2019 and has made tremendous improvements to a once struggling program. Under her leadership, the track and field team has achieved remarkable success, including several top-three conference finishes over recent years. Notably, the women’s team secured two runner-up finishes in 2024, showcasing the profound impact of her coaching on the athletes' performances. Additionally, Coach Stowers led the women’s cross country team to the best regional finish in the school's history in 2024. Stowers was also named the Mountain East Conference Women's Coach of the Year for the 2024 outdoor track season, becoming the first female to receive this accolade in MEC history. For many, she is not only the heart of these teams but also an integral part of the Wesleyan community.
Coach Stowers's influence extends beyond the track. She creates an environment that fosters support despite adversity. No problem is not worth an ear, and no struggle is an obstacle to her full attention. Coach Stowers constantly uplifts her athletes no matter the conditions they face.
The decision to remove her from her position as head coach is not only unjust but detrimental to the future success and spirit of both the cross country and track and field teams. The current and alumni student athlete community stand united in their support for Coach Stowers, recognizing her valuable contributions and advocating for her reinstatement.
Reinstating Coach Stowers will ensure the continued growth and success of the teams and maintain the sense of unity and purpose she has fostered. It would also keep Wesleyan home to many athletes.
We urge the administration of West Virginia Wesleyan College to reconsider their decision and reinstate Coach Kelsey Stowers as the head coach of the cross country and track and field teams.
Please sign this petition to support Coach Stowers and preserve not just the success of the WVWC track and field and cross country teams, but the community she has built for her athletes at WVWC.
