Reinstate Girls Soccer Team at Northwestern High School

Reinstate Girls Soccer Team at Northwestern High School
The Issue
My daughter is a senior at Northwestern High School in Adelphi, MD. Like many of her teammates, she has been eagerly preparing for the soccer season, a time to not only enjoy her final high school years but also to showcase her talents for college scouts and possibly earn scholarships. However, just two days before their first game, the girls soccer team was abruptly canceled by the school's Athletic Director—citing inadequate team numbers.
This decision impacts 12 committed girls, with three additional players ready to join, totaling 15—more than enough for a full team where only 11 are required on the field.
The underlying issue appears to be the lack of a coach, as the Athletic Director would need to assume this role, yet turned down offers from dedicated and willing parent volunteers. This is greatly unfair, denying these passionate girls the chance to play, stay engaged, and focus positively on their futures.
Soccer is more than just a game for these girls—it's a vital outlet that keeps them out of trouble and pushes them towards academic and future successes. Moreover, college sports scholarships could significantly alter their educational and career paths.
We urge the Northwestern High School administration to reconsider this cancellation. By accepting volunteer coaching assistance, they will not only fulfill an immediate need but will also empower these remarkable young women to pursue their athletic dreams.
Let's rally together to ensure that the girls soccer team at Northwestern High School is reinstated without further delay. This is a pivotal moment to uphold the values of fairness and opportunity for all students.
Please sign this petition to support our daughters and their right to play. Together, we can make a difference for the future of these young athletes.
