I personally received my Child Development Associate through the Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance (TECTA), which has led to my career as a Director for a three-star preschool. Every teacher in my school has benefited enormously from TECTA, whether it's through college advisement, tuition and textbook reimbursement, or targeted technical assistance. The children and families who attend my school have received immense value from TECTA in countless ways—behavioral observations, well-trained teachers, and referrals to early intervention.

In August, the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services made the devastating decision to cut all funding for TECTA. This program is not just a means to educate and prepare early childhood educators; it’s a lifeline that supports the backbone of early learning systems. According to the National Association for the Education of Young Children, trained early childhood educators positively impact children’s development and school readiness. Cutting funding is not just a short-sighted financial decision; it's an attack on the future of our state’s education system.

TECTA has historically provided indispensable training and resources that ensure our teachers are equipped to offer high-quality care and education. The Child Care Services Association found that teachers who participate in programs like TECTA are statistically more likely to stay in their positions longer, reducing turnover and increasing stability for children.

Reinstating funding for TECTA means strengthening the educational foundations for Tennessee’s children, supporting teachers' professional development, and ultimately producing a more skilled and dedicated workforce. We cannot afford to ignore the countless benefits that reinvesting in this program offers.

Support the educators, the youngest learners, and the families who rely on TECTA. The state must recognize the critical role TECTA plays in shaping the future of our state.
