Asalaam Alaikum Dear Community Member,

The petition started close to a week ago and Alhamdullilah we are close to 4000 signatures! Given this and reading the comments on why community members are signing the petition, it is clear that Imam Dr. Suliman is appreciated, cherished and well-liked by all. The Ottawa Muslim Association (OMA) Board’s decision to not reinstate Dr. Suliman as the Ottawa mosque’s Imam does not reflect the community’s sentiment. 

Help make a positive change in your OMA community.

Here is how you can take action:

Follow the two steps below: 

1. Sign up now to become a voting member of the Ottawa Mosque or sign up in office. Pay the annual fee of $25.00 for this year (before December 25, 2023) and next year (January 2024). This will make you eligible to vote in the upcoming OMA Board elections.

Once you have become a voting member, please include your name in the written request to the president of OMA to discuss the recent situation with Imam Dr. Suliman.

2. Attend this Friday, December 15, 2023 Jummah prayer at Ottawa Mosque (251 Northwestern Avenue) to voice your concerns respectfully and peacefully to the Board members.

The community is counting on you to be an active participant in building a strong and inclusive community. Your involvement is key to the Ottawa Muslim community’s collective success.

Abu Hurayrah (radiyallāhu ’anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (sallallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam) said: “Whosoever removes a hardship among the hardships of this world from a believer, Allāh will remove a hardship from him on the Day of Judgement. Whoever brings ease to the one who is in difficulty, Allāh will bring him ease in this world and in the Hereafter."
