Reinstate buses in Guiseley, Yeadon, Rawdon, Horsforth & Hawksworth
The Issue
Every single day, students across North West Leeds are late to school, some even missing important mock exams. Residents cannot get to work safely or on time as bus times have changed or they just don't turn up at all. Young people with disabilities are affected badly, and are losing their confidence in independent travel. Older residents cannot get to their preferred supermarket easily and have an hour to wait if one bus is cancelled. Long, dark evenings and mornings make this a safety issue, especially for women and girls so it is vital that we see positive change, quickly.
In late September, First West Yorkshire informed elected representatives of their planned changes to the 27, 33 and 34 bus services and then published timetables just days later. There was no consultation at all. The only positive move was the return of early and late services on the 27 (which are essential and we need to keep these).
This affects communities from Otley through to Guiseley, Yeadon, Rawdon, Horsforth and West Park
We now have an even worse service than before October 27th (hard to imagine!). Buses are cancelled at short notice or run late as there isn't enough time built in to services despite assurances that computer modelling would make for better timetables.
We were assured that all the changes were to benefit services but they have not.
We therefore ask First to pause and reconsider, urgently, to listen to residents and their representatives and to consult before making any significant changes.
