Reinstate BAD's Pool Access for Burlington Kids
The Issue
For over 40 years, the Burlington Aquatic Devilrays (BAD) has been a cornerstone of the Burlington community, providing families with a safe and nurturing space for their children to develop their swimming skills. Hundreds of children benefit from these resources every year, building confidence, discipline, and community ties. However, a recent decision by the City of Burlington threatens this invaluable resource over what appears to be a minor technicality.
Due to a small formatting error in their Request for Proposal (RFP), BAD has unfortunately been disqualified from the city's pool allocation process. This means that valuable pool time could now potentially be awarded to another club from Hamilton (Golden Horseshoe Aquatic Club), rather than supporting our local youth who have trained and grown within the harmonious waters of Burlington swimming facilities.
The Burlington Aquatic Devilrays shouldn't be penalized for an easily fixable administrative oversight, which could significantly affect hundreds of Burlington families and children who depend on these activities for their physical, emotional, and social well-being.
Revoking BAD's access means more than just a scheduling change. It feels like a punishment to devoted coaches, committed swimmers, and supportive families who have tirelessly worked to uphold and advance our community's athletic spirit. Burlington pools should primarily serve Burlington kids.
Our request is simple and fair: The City of Burlington should reconsider its decision and award the Burlington Aquatic Devilrays their fair pool time. Recognize the profound impact this club has on our youth and the injustice of the current disqualification.
Join us in urging the city officials to act justly and stand with the families of Burlington. Let's ensure that our pools remain a supportive environment for our children to thrive. Sign this petition to demand equitable treatment for the Burlington Aquatic Devilrays and advocate for our children’s right to access local facilities that have nurtured generations. Your signature can make a tangible difference in the lives of hundreds of Burlington children and their futures in sports.
Please sign this petition and help BAD regain the rightful access to Burlington's pools.
