As someone deeply invested in the development of efficient and accessible transportation, I am concerned about the current plans to build a high-speed intercity passenger train between Las Vegas and Southern California. While this is undoubtedly a significant step forward, it might not be enough. We should also consider reinstating another form of long-distance train service - Amtrak's Desert Wind.

The Desert Wind was a crucial part of our transportation infrastructure until its discontinuation in 1997 due to budget cuts. It served as an essential link between Los Angeles, CA and Salt Lake City, UT with stops at many cities including Las Vegas, NV. Its absence has left a void that no other service has been able to fill completely.

Reinstating the Desert Wind would provide an alternative mode of transport for residents and tourists alike. It would reduce road congestion and contribute to lowering carbon emissions by offering an eco-friendly travel option.

While I may not be a resident of Las Vegas or its vicinity, I believe that everyone should have access to diverse transportation options that suit their needs and preferences. The return of the Desert Wind could significantly enhance connectivity while promoting sustainable travel practices.
