The Canadian federal government’s cancellation of the 2 Billion Trees (2BT) ecojustice program has created a serious gap in Canada’s climate and restoration strategy at a time of record wildfires, ecosystem decline, and accelerating biodiversity loss. Demand the Liberal Party of Canada and Mark Carney reverse the November 2025 decision.

When the Canadian government ended the 2BT program they weakened both ecological recovery and economic stability. Experts warn this decision eliminated one of the country’s only national tools for environmentalism, restoring fire‑damaged and logged landscapes.

Tree nurseries that expanded to meet federal demand now face layoffs and downsizing. These jobs support youth, rural communities, and Indigenous workers. Clean50 estimates 31,000 jobs will be lost, and more than 8% of Canada’s forests burned in the past three years now require active restoration. 

We, the undersigned, call on the Government of Canada to:

- Reinstate the 2 Billion Trees national tree‑planting program
- Support Canadian nurseries and restoration workers
- Embed large‑scale reforestation in Canada’s climate competitiveness strategy

Canada’s forests are a national asset. Ending the 2BT program was a step backward. Reinstating it is essential for our climate, our economy, and future generations.
