Reimplement DEI Policies and Reverse Bathroom Signage at the University of Cincinnati

The Issue

In recent weeks, the University of Cincinnati had DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) policies that ensured equal treatment of all its students, faculty, and staff. However, these policies have been discontinued, causing concerns for a significant part of our community. Similarly, the recent changes to the bathroom signage create a hostile and discriminatory environment for specific student populations, violating university's principle of inclusivity.

According to the U.S. Trans Survey (National Center for Transgender Equality, 2015), 59% of respondents avoided public restrooms because they feared confrontations. Restoring the former inclusive signage is critical for the welfare of these students.

To uphold the values of equal opportunity, diversity and respect, we call upon the University of Cincinnati to reinstate the DEI policies and to reverse the bathroom signage immediately.

To those who believe the university will lose federal funding if we fight against Trump’s movement to ban DEI, this is simply a scare tactic. Multiple US district judges have already blocked the Trump administration from terminating/changing federal contracts to public educational institutions. We fully have the capability to resist and cannot fall into propaganda that we are helpless bystanders.
