Regulate the Purchase and Use of E-Scooters in the UK

The Issue

My daughter recently suffered a life-changing injury while riding an e-scooter owned by her much younger friend. This tragic incident has opened our eyes to the dangers of e-scooters, especially when used incorrectly. We have since learned that many others in our town alone have had similar experiences.

E-scooters for children are currently illegal in the U.K; they are intended for adult use only on private land with a provisional license and appropriate insurance. However, it is becoming increasingly common to see children riding these high-speed vehicles through public streets, risking serious injury to themselves and others or causing damage to property.

We believe that stricter regulations need to be put in place regarding the purchase and use of e-scooters. Upon purchase, customers should be required to provide proof of insurance and a valid license. This will ensure that only those who are legally allowed and adequately insured can operate these vehicles.

According to data from The National Safety Council (NSC), there were more than 14,651 e-scooter-related injuries reported across all ages in 2018 alone (source: NSC Injury Facts). These figures highlight the urgent need for action.

By signing this petition, you're supporting safer streets for everyone - pedestrians, cyclists, drivers and scooter riders alike. Let's work together towards responsible ownership and usage of E-scooters in our communities! Please sign this petition today.
