Regulate Pokémon Card Scalping and Preserve the Collecting Community

The Issue

The joy and community spirit that once characterized Pokémon card collecting has seen a dramatic change. The hobby now has been dominated by greedy scalpers who often reseal used card packs, contribute to the fraudulently production of fake merchandise, & stockpile cards only to resell them at exorbitant prices. These predatory practices have resulted in empty shelves in stores nationwide, creating a bleak landscape for genuine collectors, both young and old.

In 2020, the trading card industry saw its market value increase to a staggering $6 Billion, a sharp rise that can be attributed, in part, to the surge in Pokémon card popularity (source: TCGPlayer). Scalpers have taken advantage of this trend, resulting in skyrocketing prices and a void of availability, making card collection inaccessible for many.

This is a heartfelt plea to The Pokémon Company to actively combat these unethical practices. We urge them to implement purchasing limits, increase production to meet demand, and develop an anti-scalping strategy. Moreover, we call upon them to communicate openly about these measures, acknowledging the plight of the genuine Pokémon card collecting community. Only through these measures can we hope to restore the essence of a hobby that has brought immense joy to millions worldwide.

Let's join forces to protect our beloved Pokémon card collecting community from the grasp of scalpers. Please sign this petition.
