Regulate and Limit Over-the-Counter Access to Certain Cold and Cough Medicines

Regulate and Limit Over-the-Counter Access to Certain Cold and Cough Medicines
The Issue
I am a mother, standing helplessly by my son's bedside as he lays on life support. The culprit? A readily available over-the-counter cold and cough medicine like Coricidin which he overdosed on. I am starting this petition because I believe it is a pressing issue that needs to be addressed immediately. Far too many products that have lethal potential when abused are freely accessible on store shelves.
Many drugs containing dextromethorphan (DXM), a common ingredient in many cold and cough medications, can be dangerous or even fatal if taken in large doses. Though these medications offer relief when taken correctly, DXM has been linked to numerous cases of misuse, particularly among teenagers and individuals with mental health conditions seeking a quick and cheap high. According to American Addiction Centers, DXM overdoses are increasing due to its easy access.
My son is on life support and may not survive. This painful situation raises the question: why are we placing sinus medications behind the counter while leaving something more lethal out in the open? It's time to enact stricter regulations on the sale of these medications, to minimize the risk of misuse and save lives.
We are calling for explicit regulations that require medicines like Coricidin be placed behind the counter, out of easy reach, and sold only under certain conditions to people of appropriate age. Let's prevent another family from experiencing the horror and heartbreak of seeing a loved one on life support due to easily accessible over-the-counter medication. Please, sign this petition and help prevent more tragedies. .mentalwellness#suicidepreventionOk I want to have a discussion people may not understand. My son did not overdose from getting high . He is mentally ill and tried to commit suicide. I have had many of my friends (supposedly) look at my petition not sign and not even say a word to me at all so let me explain to people why this is important. Kids , teenagers and addicts use this to get high . They call it skittles, or triple C's since 2009 many people in the whole world have died . It is considered an opiate . Why should an opiate not be regulated. Im not trying to ban this drug but its very dangerous it causes heart damage can cause brain damage if you take more than 4 in a 24 hour period . Its an opioid that at least needs to be behind the counter and people dont need to be able to buy boxes and boxes at one time. Im trying to do this for the future families that may end up In my situation whether its an addiction issue a teenager trying to get high because they can legally go buy that high for cheap or mentally ill people.Im not doing this for Eric because I realize he can attempt suicide with other things and other ways. Im trying to save other families. Dxm youngest victim was a 12 year old something so dangerous that children use to get high and classified an opiate should not be unregulated. Im on here and share everyone's causes business campaign runs etc. With my cause 617 people have viewed my petition and 58 have signed . Times like this show you who your friends truly are
