The Issue

Let’s face it folks, AI is here to stay. Recently an AI band named the velvet sundown made waves on Spotify and music review channels on YouTube such as Anthony Fantano and Rick Beato.

At first people weren’t sure what they were seeing because it seemed like whoever decided to post this band wanted to give the impression to listeners that this was an actual band. Upon further review it became obvious Velvet Sundown was AI and the user who made their profile changed the bio to a more honest description of the project acknowledging the facts of how the music was made.

Truly, the music wasn’t bad. On a basic level it was quite good. That being said its quality of music can only exist due to the existence of human creators who spent blood, sweat, years, and tears devoting their lives to a magic craft.

I’m pro AI being a tool for eliminating marginal every day tasks. Using it to create and invade spaces occupied by human beings isn’t a good idea at all.

AI cannot be allowed to dominate creative spaces while posing as human artists. I ask for signatures in the hope that legislators can address this issue by writing a law dictating that all music produced by AI be made public domain. All artists that the AI studied and imitated should be paid for their work and credited. All AI music should be watermarked and labeled as AI.

This seems like a no brainer to me. Please sign and share!
