Following the huge success of the Full Council meeting on 8th July we recognise the importance of keeping the momentum level high.
Alongside the petition to see Whitchurch Athletics Track regenerated, we're also campaigning that the much loved South Bristol Bristol Family Cycling Centre should not be closed.
Bristol City Council want to build a £15 million new facility in Lawrence Weston, of which the plans look amazing.
The problem is, that to open this new facility the Bristol Family Cycling Centre will shut. The Centre has been open since 2016 and is extensively used by families, schools and the wider community. It also has a selection of specialist bicycles for those who have disabilities.
The new Lawrence Weston site is over 10 miles from areas of South Bristol and will be completely inaccessible for those who enjoy using the South Bristol facility.
Our proposal is that the Bristol Family Cycling Centre should not have to close and for South Bristol to lose facilities that promote health and well-being. Bristol is big enough to have a north and south cycling centre.
We see a regenerated Whitchurch Athletics Track as having accessibility for cycling so there will be a joint offer for those to use the site. The are other athletics tracks in the UK that also cater for cycling - see link below:

It would be great to be able to bring a second petition to Bristol City Council.
This would provide further reinforcement that not only should the athletics track be saved from demolition and regenerated but there is a very strong case to preserve the Bristol Family Cycling Centre as well.
Would you consider signing and sharing this petition via this link?

We only need 3,500 Bristol signatures to bring this petition to Full Council - with over 6,600 supporters on the Regenerate Whitchurch Athletics Track we could reach this number very quickly.
Thank you for your support to see South Bristol keep these facilities and not lose them.
