Dear Supporter,
We are organising a great leaflet drop around Lambeth asking voters: Don't Vote for Demolition on 5th May.
If you could help with this, please contact us at centralhillcampaigns@gmail.com, @savecentralhill, @whydemolish, refurbishdontdemolish@gmail.com, 07504497725.
The plans to demolish and rebuild the award-winning Central Hill Estate continues as the Master Planning phase is still underway. This is despite the numbers showing that, in fact, there will be NO additional council-level rent homes across the six estates facing demolition and calls from all sectors of the architectural and environmental community to retrofit - repair, refurbish and insulate - existing housing. It also makes financial sense!
Lambeth Council plans to rebuild Central Hill with 1,200 properties starting on the site of the already-demolished Truslove House. Matthew Bennett, our soon to leave councillor, has been pictured with a spade supposedly starting the works whilst there were no safety notices and locals had not been informed. No communication and no following of procedure. This is typical!
From Lambeth Labour councillors, MPs, the Mayor and the cabinet, as well as national Government, all have been complicit in pushing social housing to the side. There has been a lack of repairs despite the rent that tenants pay and housing is being knocked down to make way for what is effectively an increase in solely high-end housing and investment properties.
But now is the time of local elections. It's time for change. It's important to show that a vote for the current Labour council in Lambeth is a vote to continue with the current destructive demolition schemes.
Please help by circulating this on social media and to help us deliver 10,000 leaflets, if you can.
Your vote could make a difference, so please vote if you can. If you are not registered, here's the link to register before midday on April 14th. https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
