Hi, 

Thank you to all those who have recently signed. Let's keep spreading the message that retrofitting is the only way forward.  Only 1% of the UK's housing is new build so it cannot solve the housing insulation crisis.  So we call on Local Government to stop demolishing their estates and for National Government to stop incentivising constructing new builds through tax breaks and to fund retrofitting.

Updates

A local resident wrote to Steve Reed, the MP for Croydon North, previously leader of Lambeth Council when the demolition of the estates was first put forward and is currently Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.  He asked if Steve will intervene in the mass destruction happening on the other side of the borough boundary.  See the full article here:

On Weds 24th November, the Green Councillors at Lambeth Town Hall are putting in a Green Homes motion, proposing the council end estate demolitions and build, if it does need to build, to PassivHaus standards.  Both points are fiercely contested by Labour, which holds the majority. Come and Protest on Weds 24th, 6pm - 7.30pm, outside Lambeth Town Hall in Brixton.  Sabine Mairey, from Save Central Hill Community and Refurbish Don't Demolish will be speaking to the council that will be debating ending estate regenerations.

Update:  The viewing of Pruitt-Igoe, due to take place in  Gipsy Hill on the 4th December, has been postponed until the New Year, to allow for more workshops and presentations to be added.  We still look forward to you coming to see it.
