There's a pressing need for beneficial change in how animal neglect and abuse calls are managed. At present, not every report is necessarily followed up, some have even been criticized, which can leave helpless animals in distressing environments. This leads to a significant concern on the welfare of these innocent beings who are unable to protect themselves. Accurate statistics indicate that nearly 1,000,000 animals are abused every year in the United States under different forms including neglect and cruelty (American Humane Association). Therefore, it is crucial that every reported case of animal neglect or abuse is thoroughly inspected. There are many volunteers who are willing to do a drive by as a potential follow up, for those that can be seen from the road, they can inquire with neighbors then report back. There is no reason for the initial caller to be dismissed and belittled, when so many are willing to help. A more robust system may also allow for faster intervention, potentially saving the lives of countless animals. It's time to step up our efforts against maltreatment of animals and ensure that all abuse allegations are taken seriously. We urge officials to enforce stricter rules and regulations regarding the validation of such calls to better protect the animals that are potentially at risk.
