I am a concerned citizen who recently adopted two dogs from the Columbia Animal Shelter. The conditions in which my dogs, as well as others, were kept in shattered my heart. It was not just their physical state but also the emotional trauma they had endured that deeply upset me. 

The more I learned about this shelter, the more enraged and upset I became. This is not an isolated incident; it's a systemic issue that needs immediate attention.

According to statistics from American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S animal shelters nationwide every year - many of them experiencing neglect and abuse similar to what we see in Columbia.

It's time for us to take action against such cruelty happening right here in our community in Columbia, SC, USA. We need stricter regulations and oversight on animal shelters like these to ensure all animals are treated with dignity and respect they deserve.

We call upon local government officials and animal welfare organizations to investigate this matter thoroughly and implement necessary reforms at the Columbia Animal Shelter immediately.
