Reform the Child Benefit System: Base Benefits on Household, Not Individual Income

Reform the Child Benefit System: Base Benefits on Household, Not Individual Income
The Issue
I am a full time worker earning minimum wage. My partner and I work hard to provide for our children in a high cost-of-living society. Unfortunately, the way the child benefit system works, we just miss eligibility for child benefits because my husband’s income alone meets the cutoff. Yet, we know many families earning more than us who are entitled to full benefits. It is disheartening to encounter such inequality and brings into perspective the flaw in the current system that calculates benefits based on a single earner’s salary, rather than considering the overall household income.
This is neither just nor fair to all the families and single parents who are being side-stepped despite earning fewer, living in the same society, and confronting similar challenges.
Let us bring attention to the unfairness of this method and hold authorities accountable for reforming our child benefit system. It should take into account the total household income rather than comparing with individual parents' income, ensuring no household at the same earning level is deprived of the benefits they rightly deserve.
Please join this cause to promote fairness and equality in the distribution of child benefits. Add your voice to this important issue by signing the petition.
