The Issue

Children are increasingly being placed at risk online because technology laws have not kept pace with the realities of modern digital platforms. Predators routinely use social media, messaging apps, gaming platforms, and other online services to impersonate minors, groom children, and facilitate exploitation and abuse, often with little resistance due to weak age verification and minimal safety enforcement.

Current technology laws are outdated and fail to protect children from online predators, allowing tech companies to operate without accountability. By failing to implement meaningful safety measures, these platforms enable predators and expose children and families to devastating, preventable harm.

The statistics are alarming. According to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), reports of online grooming offenses have increased by more than 50% over the last five years. Yet, laws that govern technology usage haven’t evolved to address these threats. This petition calls for immediate legal reforms to ensure the safety and security of our children as they navigate the internet.

Reform can be achieved by mandating enforceable age verification measures across digital platforms. This should not only include the sites the children directly interact with, but also social media platforms, chat apps, and gaming networks which are frequently exploited by predators.

Additionally, platforms should bear responsibility for the safety of minors using their services. Implementing stronger user reporting tools, employing advanced AI to detect suspicious activities, and conducting regular audits should be mandatory. Companies neglecting these responsibilities should be held accountable and face significant legal consequences.

These measures are not just idealistic—they are necessary. Every child deserves a safe digital environment. We need to reform our technology laws now to safeguard the future of the next generation. Your signature can press your government to take meaningful action and prioritize child safety in the digital realm.

Sign this petition to urge lawmakers to implement stringent legislation ensuring robust online protection for our children.
