Reform Protection From Abuse Law in Kansas

Reform Protection From Abuse Law in Kansas
The Issue
My name is Damian Quinlan, and I am a 42-year-old resident of Lawrence, KS. I am reaching out to share the tremendous hardship I've faced due to being wrongfully charged under the Protection From Abuse (PFA) law. My life has been turned upside down due to accusations of violating a PFA order and claims of false charges related to. These accusations have been leveled against me under false pretenses, yet they continue to haunt me. I find myself unable to secure employment, condemned to live with the stigma attached to these charges for the next 35-40 years, despite being confident in my innocence.
Living with this burden is emotionally and financially devastating. I sit at home, overcome with despair, wondering why I am unable to support myself or contribute to society. These charges, which I firmly believe are unjust, remain on my record indefinitely, preventing me from moving forward in my life. It's humiliating to remain shackled by something that I did not do, and it denies me the chance to work and live a fulfilling life.
That's why I'm calling for reform in the Protection From Abuse (PFA) law in Kansas. Specifically, changes should focus on creating pathways for individuals wrongfully accused to have their records sealed or expunged, particularly in cases where false pretenses are evident. Everyone deserves the opportunity to overcome their past and live a life unburdened by unjust accusations.
The current system fails to account for wrongful charges, leaving innocent residents like myself ensnared in a cycle of unemployment and social exclusion that benefits no one. Our state thrives when all its residents can contribute meaningfully to society. Reforming these laws will not only provide relief to those wrongfully accused but also reinforce the integrity and trust in our justice system.
Ensuring these avenues for sealing or expunging records are available is crucial for maintaining fairness and justice within our state. By signing this petition, you're standing up for the rights of those who have been falsely accused and helping to restore hope to countless individuals who, like me, just want a fair chance to live their lives with dignity.
Please lend your support and sign this petition to urge Kansas lawmakers to reform the Protection From Abuse law and provide a pathway for sealing or expunging wrongful charges. Together, we can help rebuild lives and uphold justice for all.
