Reform Pennsylvania Custody Laws for Absent Parents

Reform Pennsylvania Custody Laws for Absent Parents
The Issue
As a single mother who has raised a child on her own, I've navigated the family court system and faced slander and threats through frivolous claims. I'm not alone. Many single parents encounter the same unjust experiences. This is why it's crucial to stand up and protect our children from absentee parents by pushing for legitimate custody law reforms in Pennsylvania.
Currently, Pennsylvania's custody laws allow a parent to maintain their rights, even if they've failed to act on their visitation rights or provide for their child. This system primarily benefits financially from child custody cases, which is concerning because it profits at the expense of children's welfare. It's a stark reality that needs addressing.
A reasonable amendment to the custody laws shouldn’t require any custodial parent to be married to terminate the non custodial parents right. Furthermore, if a non-custodial parent hasn't been present or active in their child's life for over a year, their parental rights should be automatically revoked. The onus should be on demonstrating the custodial parent's ability to care and provide for the child safely and effectively. If they can prove that, then rights of the non custodial parent needs revoked.
Statistically, countless children suffer from inconsistent parental involvement in their lives, leading to potential emotional and psychological ramifications. The legal system must prioritize the child's best interests, not act as a revenue-generation tool.
Join me in calling upon the Pennsylvania lawmakers to reform these outdated custody laws. By signing this petition, you're advocating for a system that truly respects and protects the welfare of children, ensuring only committed and responsible parents maintain their rights. Let's demand change for the sake of our children.
