Reform Licensing Requirements for Independent Alcohol Delivery Drivers in Tennessee

Reform Licensing Requirements for Independent Alcohol Delivery Drivers in Tennessee
The Issue
As someone deeply affected by the current state of alcohol delivery services, I am calling for a change. Delivery drivers do not see what goes on behind closed doors. To deliver alcohol to an already intoxicated individual only enables them to continue consuming more alcohol when they should not have access to any more. This situation puts the individual and their families at unnecessary risk and increases stress, anxiety, and affects the mental, emotional, and psychological health of those who live with these individuals.
In Tennessee alone, there were 3,423 DUI arrests made in 2019 (Tennessee Highway Safety Office). What about the number of domestic and violent crimes attributed to alcohol? These numbers are alarming considering that some of these incidents could be prevented if stricter regulations were put in place for independent alcohol delivery drivers working through licensed courier services.
We propose a reform in licensing/certification requirements that would mandate training on recognizing signs of intoxication and implementing refusal protocols when delivering alcoholic beverages. Delivery drivers who work through driver based apps should be held to the same laws, training and certification standards as liquor store employees. The same penalties for any violation of these standards and laws should also be the same. This change is not just about reducing DUI cases; it's about protecting our community members from the harmful effects of excessive drinking.
It's time we take action to ensure that our communities are safe from the dangers associated with irresponsible alcohol consumption. Please join us in urging lawmakers to reform licensing requirements for independent alcohol delivery drivers in Tennessee. Sign this petition today!
