Reform India's juvenile driving laws

Reform India's juvenile driving laws

The Issue

In India, the safety of road users is constantly compromised, and this recent and heart-wrenching incident involving a young man named Sahil Dhanesra underscores the need for our urgent attention. Sahil tragically lost his life because of a reckless act: a minor driving a car while filming a social media video.

The problem is glaring. In many parts of the country, juvenile drivers, often inexperienced and prone to distraction, are at the wheels of vehicles they are ill-prepared to control. This endangers not just their lives but also those of innocent bystanders and other road users. Despite the current regulations, enforcement is weak, and accountability is even weaker when it comes to minors committing such grave offenses.

Statistics from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways have shown a disconcerting rise in accidents involving underage drivers. It is estimated that juvenile driving is responsible for a substantial percentage of road fatalities annually in India. Such numbers are unacceptable in any society that values the sanctity of human life.

Therefore, we call for a comprehensive reform of the existing juvenile driving laws in India. This includes stricter licensing processes, increased parental accountability, and mandatory educational programs about the dangers of reckless driving and social media distractions. Additionally, severe legal repercussions should be enforced uniformly across the country when minors are found to have violated these laws, in order to deter others from such reckless behavior.

Parents, educators, policymakers, and law enforcement agencies must collaborate to create a framework that not only prevents tragedies like Sahil's but also fosters a culture of responsibility and safety among young individuals. Together, we can drive change that safeguards lives and upholds justice.

Sign this petition to urge the government to tighten juvenile driving laws, increase enforcement, and ensure that no more lives are lost to preventable tragedies like Sahil's. Your support can make roads safer for everyone.THE ACCUSED MUST BE GIVEN A LIFE SENTENCE
