Reform Australian ADVO Process to Include Immediate 30-Day No Contact Order

The issue

As someone who has seen firsthand the damage done, I am calling for a reform in the process of Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders (ADVO's) in Australia. My immediate family member suffered at the hands of her ex-partner emotionally, harassed and intimidated, while the local police allowed for space and continued chances to the perpetrator resulting in lasting damage.
Local authorities' delay in increasing the conditions on the ADVO allowed for unthinkable mental harm which is the narcissist’s end goal.

If an immediate no contact order for 30 days had been enforced from the very onset, the damage inflicted upon my family could have been avoided or, at the least, their abuser could have been held accountable.
This change may not help us personally now but too many people have daughters, sons, mothers & father’s being victimised so maybe we can help the next person.

As it stands, the current system does not offer enough immediate protection to victims of domestic violence. Comprehensive and immediate implementation of contact restrictions can help provide a much-needed safeguard for victims while the matters are being adjudicated. It's time to ensure that victims are protected from the very moment an ADVO is issued, rather than potentially allowing for additional damage before adjustments are made.

The goal of this petition is to lobby Australian lawmakers for a change in the process of ADVO's, to include a compulsory immediate 30-day no contact order with the alleged abuser, regardless of the conditions of the ADVO. This change would provide immediate protection to victims and hold abusive persons accountable in a faster and more efficient way. Let us stop the engraving of lasting damage. For all those who suffered like my family, your signature on this petition is the start to change. Please, sign this petition to give victims of domestic violence the immediate protection they need.
