Refine the Transportation System in the Sacramento Metro Area

Refine the Transportation System in the Sacramento Metro Area
The Issue
The Problem:
Sacramento's growing population and environmental concerns necessitate a robust and accessible public transit system. Current challenges include:
- Limited Service Frequency and Routes: Many residents lack convenient and reliable public transit options to reach their destinations.
- Insufficient Bike-Sharing Infrastructure: A lack of bike-sharing stations and safe bike lanes hinders the use of bicycles for commuting and recreation.
- High Costs and Inconvenience: Public transit fares can be burdensome, especially for low-income individuals and frequent users.
The Solution:
To address these issues, we propose the following improvements:
Expand Public Transit Services:
- Increase the frequency and routes of bus and light rail services, especially during peak hours and on weekends.
- Extend service hours to accommodate late-night workers and those with irregular schedules.
Invest in Bike-Sharing Infrastructure:
- Expand the network of bike-sharing stations in high-traffic areas and residential neighborhoods (like Elk Grove).
- Add bicycleshare alongside scootershare as a microtransit option in the area, for people who might need to carry cargo.
- Allow bike sharing services to be used by minors, with parent permission, (this will fix the issue of them using a parent's ID to verify an account, and enables microtransit for those who need it most)
Connect Card Usability and Feasibility:
- Implement mobile wallet to the Connect Card system, allowing for accessibility for those who don't have access to the limited retail presence, or have no time for a mailed card.
- Expand the influence of Connect Card, by implementing a better fare system, like those used in San Francisco and Seattle.
- Improve the retail presence of Connect Card by selling at more locations, such as a partnership with grocers in the area.
Bus Rapid Transit:
- Implementation of a Rapid bus system, using the request stop method.
- Fare collection pre-boarding, with only proof of payment validation needed aboard, speeding up the process.
Metro and Light Rail:
- Implementation of a Metro system in the Sacramento Metro Area (doesn't have to be underground, suggest using the BART wide gauge method.)
By signing this petition, you are calling on local and regional authorities to:
- Prioritize public transit funding and investment.
- Implement innovative solutions to improve mobility and reduce reliance on private vehicles.
- Create a more sustainable, affordable, and equitable transportation system for all.
Let's work together to build a greener and more connected Sacramento!
