Friends, I have encouraging news about my son Dixtan. Earlier this week, Dixtan’s lawyers provided further materials to Immigration Minister Andrew Giles in support of Dixtan’s request to stay here with me in Australia.

Now, Dixtan and I need your support more than ever. If you haven’t contacted your government or independent MP or Senators yet, can you please click here to send an email now?

I believe that a compassionate minister would not separate a mother and son. Every time I see Dixtan, I give him hope. I tell him: “People are looking after you and trying to keep you here.”

But Dixtan and I are so worried about what will happen to him if Minister Giles allows officials to force him back to Sri Lanka. I am terrified he will become one of the “disappeared” Tamil people who are never found.

Dixtan’s uncle is one of the “missing” and his grandfather was shot by the Sri Lankan military. His father was killed when government forces fired heavy artillery into a so-called ‘no fire zone’.

In Sri Lanka, Dixtan was being harassed by authorities on the streets and at work. He was scared of what would happen to him as well. It prompted him to leave because he felt unsafe.

I lost my husband and now I am scared I will lose my son, unless Minister Giles intervenes.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was brought up by a single mother, so I hope he would understand something of what Dixtan and I are going through.

It is thanks to you and many others that Dixtan’s case will go to Minister Giles to consider, but my son is still in great danger. Please help Dixtan and I stay together here in Australia where I know he’ll by safe, by clicking here to email your MP and Senators now.

Thank you,

Reeta

PS Thank you to the Dandenong Star Journal for publishing this week’s front page story about Dixtan and I, along with my open letter to Minister Giles and my local MP, Mr Julian Hill.
