In Nova Scotia, owning an electric vehicle (EV) is becoming a financial strain due to the $750 toll imposed on EVs, compared to only $250 for gasoline cars. This disparity not only penalizes those who choose environmentally friendly transportation options but also discourages the adoption of clean energy solutions in our community. 

For many EV owners, including myself, this unfair tolling represents an additional burden that contradicts the global and national efforts to reduce carbon emissions. It is well known that transportation accounts for about 29% of total greenhouse gas emissions in the Canada according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Encouraging EV use is a crucial step toward mitigating this impact.

Other territories and provinces are adopting forward-thinking policies by offering incentives for EV owners, thus actively promoting greener choices. In contrast, the Houston governments current toll policy stands as a significant barrier to progress. The provinces decision not only discourages environmentally conscious citizens but also affects our air quality and public health. 

We urge the Houston government to reassess this inequitable toll structure. A fair toll policy should reflect the broader commitment to environmental sustainability and support the transition to electric vehicles. Implementing a toll system that equitably charges EV users would align Houston with cities leading the way in green transportation.
