Reduce the Upper Coomera Development Frenzy - Improve our infrastructure first

🛑 Petition to Stop or Reduce Overdevelopment on Baileys Mountain Road, Upper Coomera (COM/2024/317) and Reserve road (COM/2024/53)
Sign this petition to demand regulated developments that protect our environment and the future of Upper Coomera.
To the Gold Coast City Council and relevant decision-makers of the House,
We, the undersigned residents and concerned community members/supports, oppose the scale and pace of proposed residential development at Lot 58 and lot 57 SP191940, 202 Baileys Mountain Road, and lot 183 at 176 Baileys Mountain Road Upper Coomera (Application COM/2024/317), as well as (COM/2024/53).
This development alongside the nearby "Calli Development", the existing Baileys Reserve Estate, and including COM/2024/53 subdivision on reserve road that is introducing 181+ homes… is part of an alarming trend of overdevelopment in Upper Coomera.
🔺 What’s at risk?
The loss of significant native bushland, old-growth ghost gums and native trees, and wildlife habitats that are rapidly being cleared with little consideration for long-term environmental sustainability.
Local biodiversity is under threat — including freshwater turtles, birdlife, and forest ecosystems that cannot be replaced once destroyed.
Destruction of the natural landscape that gives Upper Coomera its rural character and ecological value.
🚧 What’s the problem?
Infrastructure is not keeping pace with development: roads are congested, public transport is VERY limited through reserve road with one bus route: 727 (that only comes hourly).
This section of Upper Coomera is not equipped or suited for this quantity of residents and does not have the appropriate infrastructure nor handling capacity to improve our road networks. Thus, this development will bring additional traffic to an already over-populated, congested suburb.
Environmental protections are weak or non-existent!
📢 What do we want?
We are calling for:
- A pause or significant reduction in the scale of the development at 202 and 176 Baileys Mountain Road and funding into rehabilitating the waterway and riparian forest surrounding it.
- A full environmental impact assessment, with protection for remaining old-growth trees and habitats.
- Transparent community consultation: not just public notices, but real engagement with the people who live here. No meaningful community consultation has taken place, and residents are left with minimal power as large-scale developments reshape our neighbourhood.
Upper Coomera deserves thoughtful, sustainable planning not relentless construction at the cost of nature, liveability, and community wellbeing.
